What is the link between HPV and cervical cancer?

I am looking for connection betwen HPV and cancer. Could you help me??

Almost all cases of cervical cancer are a result of HPV infection. HPV leads to cervical cancer when it does not clear up on its own and starts to cause abnormal cells to develop in the cervix. Because cancer may not form for many years, even decades after initial infection, it is important for women to go in for routine cervical exams.
